Ohio Lottery Encourages Responsible Gifting

Responsible-Gifting.pngCLEVELAND - The Ohio Lottery reminds adults and its retail partners that lottery tickets may be fun-filled and exciting presents, but they are not suitable gifts for minors.

This year’s responsible gambling holiday message is to make it “the most responsible time of the year” by discouraging the gifting of lottery products to minors during the holiday season. Lottery games are great gifts for adults, but they are not appropriate for children. Ohio Lottery games are for people age 18 and over.

Every year the Ohio Lottery joins the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) and McGill University’s International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviors and several other lotteries in the national holiday campaign to increase public awareness about the serious issue of youth gambling.

“We are pleased to once again participate in this Holiday Campaign. We encourage our players to have fun while playing responsibly year-round, and the responsibility extends to the gift giving season,” said Dennis Berg, Ohio Lottery Executive Director.

Research shows that youth gambling can lead to more severe gambling disorders later in life and has been shown to be linked to other addictive behaviors such as smoking, drinking and drug use. The national holiday campaign is one of many endeavors the Ohio Lottery has undertaken to continuously improve its responsible gambling program.
