Academic All Stars

The Partners in Education Academic All Star Award recognizes K-12 students who have exhibited academic achievement, community involvement, citizenship and leadership in and out of the classroom.

      Academic All Star is recognized

      PAULDING -  Cora Agler is an Academic All Star for the Ohio Lottery.  She is a student at Paulding Elementary located in Paulding County.  She is in the first grade.

      According to Jan Kohart, Grant Site Coordinator, “Cora is a first grader who tries very hard.  She is a good worker who wants to learn.” She has become an excellent reader and is an asset to the school.

      Kess Cline –  Teays Valley West Middle School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      COMMERCIAL POINT -  Kess Cline is a student at Teays Valley West Middle School located in Pickaway County.  She was recently honored by the Ohio Lottery as an Academic All Star.

      Cline is described as hardworking and creative.  She is respectful and able to express her opinions in a respectful way.  She strives to be “the best she can be.”  Allison Swanger, assistant principal, refers to Cline as a role model and a student who “strives to meet her goals.”  Cline is a talented writer and musician.  She is a pleasure to have in class and the school is lucky to have her as a student.

      Sam Gielink–  R.B. Chamberlin Middle School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      TWINSBURG -  Sam Gielink is an Academic All Star for the Ohio Lottery.  He attends R.B. Chamberlin Middle School located in Summit County.  

      Gielink is described as an “independent thinker and a creative writer who conveys clear purpose.”  He demonstrates the ability to write and speak “eloquently.”  He recently wrote a persuasive letter to the principal to plan a safe day to protest gun violence and remember those lost at Marjory Stoneman Douglas.  He is a leader with ambition who motivates students and invites them to come together for a common purpose.  He takes pride in the school and his community which also illuminates out into the world.  His teachers and students both hold him in high regard.

      For being recognized as an Academic All Star, Gielink will receive an assortment of Partners in Education merchandise from the Ohio Lottery along with a gift card.

      Thomas Shasteen-Taylor –  East Palestine Middle School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      EAST PALESTINE -  Thomas Shasteen-Taylor is an Academic Star for the Ohio Lottery’s Partners in Education program.  He is a student at East Palestine Middle School located in Columbiana County.

      Shasteen-Taylor is described as having nearly perfect attendance, being an outstanding honor student and having “exemplary behavior and character.”  He is a dedicated athlete and student who has had to “overcome some adversity” but has done an “amazing job.”  He is a member of the Builder’s Club and academic achievement group.  He is an asset to the school.

      Jean-Claude Hatem –  Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      BROADVIEW HEIGHTS -  Jean-Claude Hatem is an Academic All Star for the Ohio Lottery.  He is a senior at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School located in Cuyahoga County.

      Hatem is a hard worker who completes his assignments on time and participates in class. Sean Brennan, a teacher at the school says, “His questions often take the class to a higher level of learning than was intended.  In fact, many times I will ask him to research the answers to his questions and ask him to report back to the class where his ideas turned into a project for the entire class.”  He has a “positive impact” on the students in the classroom and his grades are among the top of the class.

      Zoey Schultz –  Paulding Elementary

      Academic All Star is recognized

      PAULDING -  Zoey Schultz is a fourth -grade student at Paulding Elementary.  She was recently recognized by the Ohio Lottery as an Academic All Star.

      Schultz is described as a hard-working student.   She is friendly and helpful to fellow students.  She does her best to complete her homework on time and is willing to ask for help when she needs it.

      Madison Swabb –  Milton-Union Middle School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      WEST MILTON -  Madison Swabb was recently honored by the Ohio Lottery as an Academic All Star.  She is a seventh grader at Milton-Union Middle School located in Miami County.  

      Samantha Klaus, a teacher at the school says, “Madison is a joy to have in class as well as a student-athlete on the track.” She is always willing to help other students in the classroom.

      Wyatt Lykins  –  Little Miami High School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      MORROW -  Wyatt Lykins was recently honored by the Ohio Lottery as an Academic All Star.  He is in the tenth grade at Little Miami High School located in Warren County. 

      Lykins is described as an “excellent student athlete” for the school.  “Wyatt is an active participant in health class who has demonstrated excellence and leadership.  Wyatt also has an energetic personality that helps him in working with classmates and teachers,” says teacher Caleb Jones.

      Jack Shope –  Teays Valley West Middle School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      COMMERCIAL POINT -  Jack Shope is a student at Teays Valley West Middle School located in Pickaway County.  He was recently honored as an Academic All Star by the Ohio Lottery.  

      Erica Neal, a teacher at the school says that, “Jack is becoming a leader in the classroom.  His confidence is growing as the year progresses.  He is always smiling, has a great attitude, and has positive energy.”

      Academic All Star is recognized

      MASSILLON -  Ava Turkal is an Academic All Star for the Ohio Lottery’s Partners in Education program.  She attends Edison Middle School located in Stark County.

      Teacher Mrs. Patron says, “Ava is a dedicated student who puts maximum effort into all assessments.  She can always be counted on to participate in class discussions, model successful work habits, and assist peers who may be struggling.  She challenges herself by maintaining impressive grades in challenging courses such as Honors Math, and participates in electives such as 7th grade band. In addition to her scholastic achievements, she is a kind and caring young lady who strives to be a friend to all.”

      Jonathon Bertovich –  East Palestine Middle School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      EAST PALESTINE -  Jonathon Bertoviche is an eighth- grade student at East Palestine Middle School located in Columbiana County. He was recently honored as an Academic All Star by the Ohio Lottery.

      “Jonathon is a fantastic honor roll student who has outstanding behavior and attendance.  He is a member of Builder’s Club, an academic achievement club.  He also volunteers time to help teachers throughout the school year as well,” says school counselor Elizabeth Sherry.

      Bertovich is an athlete who plays basketball and he also assists with coaching himself.  He volunteers at this church and works at a family Christmas tree farm.  He is described as an “outstanding young man” who tries his best at everything he sets out to do.

      Peyton Puckett-Cereghin –  Paulding Elementary

      Academic All Star is recognized

      PAULDING -  Peyton Puckett-Cereghin is an Academic All Star for the Ohio Lottery.  Puckett-Cereghin is a second-grade student at Paulding Elementary located in Paulding County.
        
      Bethany Smith, a teacher at the school, says, “Peyton is full of spunk and tries very hard to get all her work done.  She is helpful to others and always tries her best to cheer everyone up.”

      Mina Boocher –  Milton-Union Middle School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      WEST MILTON -  Mina Boocher is an Academic All Star for the Ohio Lottery.  She is a student at Milton-Union Middle School located in Miami County.

      Gentry Glasscoe, a teacher at the school, says, “Mina worked really hard in class when we were writing argumentative essays.  She used class time to write and ask questions.  Mina has a positive attitude in class.”

      Emily Grim  –  Langsford Learning Center

      Academic All Star is recognized

      WEST CHESTER -  Emily Grim is an Academic All Star for the Ohio Lottery.  She attends Langsford Learning Center and is in the seventh grade. She was recently named an Ohio Lottery Academic All Star.

      Instructor Sarah Scotland says Emily has a wonderful work ethic and comes ready to learn and gives her best effort.  She makes academic progress and is committed to improve each day.  “Time and time again I am impressed by her achievement.  Working with Emily is a pleasure.  She is a daily reminder of the reason I chose to teach,” says Scotland.

      Harrison Payne –  Teays Valley West Middle School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      COMMERCIAL POINT -  Harrison Payne was recently named an Academic All Star by the Ohio Lottery. He attends Teays Valley West Middle School located in Pickaway County.
        
      “Harrison has such a great attitude in class every day.  He is always working hard and helping others.  He is a pleasure to have in class, is able to face any challenge given to him academically and is well liked by his peers,” says Erica Neal, a teacher at the school.

      Lexi Smith– Notre Dame High School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      PORTSMOUTH -  Lexi Smith is an Academic All Star for the Ohio Lottery.  She is a student attending Notre Dame High School located in Scioto County.

      “Miss Smith is an excellent role model for our students.  She is a well behaved young lady who sets high standards for herself, says Thomas Walker, principal at the school.  She has a high G.P.A. and has over 80 hours of community service.  She is a volleyball player and an “outstanding” singer.  She also plays basketball.

       For being recognized as an Academic All Star, Smith will receive an assortment of Partners in Education merchandise from the Ohio Lottery along with a gift card.

      Leila Ligona–  RB Chamberlin Middle School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      TWINSBURG -  Leila Ligon is a student at RB Chamberlin Middle School.   She is a seventh grader who is described as an “enthusiastic learner.” 

      She exhibits a “positive outlook and attitude” in the classroom.  Ligon is cooperative, kind and helpful to her peers.  Linda Brown, says, “She uses her mature temperament to set positive examples of respect, responsibility and making the right choices on a daily basis.  Leila’s multi-faceted and dynamic personality is showcased through her detailed writing, her contributions to class discussions, and her involvement in Robotics Club.  Leila welcomes leadership roles when group projects are assigned and she ensures that group members remain on task and focused.”

      Cooper Vance –  East Palestine Middle School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      EAST PALESTINE -  Cooper Vance is a student at East Palestine Middle School located in Columbiana County. He was recently honored by the Ohio Lottery as an Academic All Star. He is in the eighth grade.

      Vance is an honor roll student who has great attendance and is part of the Builders Club, an academic recognition incentive program.  He is a baseball player and on the basketball team as well.  He is a hard -working young man who deserves to be recognized for his great work in and out of the classroom.  A team player and wonderful academic role model are ways that describe Vance.  He is an asset to the school!

      Kevin Hall – Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      BROADVIEW HEIGHTS -  Kevin Hall, was recently honored by the Ohio Lottery as an Academic All Star.  He is a senior at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School located in Cuyahoga County.

      Teacher Sean Brennan says that positive qualities come to mind when he thinks about Mr. Hall.  “His hard work, especially when it comes to preparing for summative assessments sets him apart from many of his peers.  In my experience he has demonstrated his ability to digest the material we cover in class and to think about it in critical and creative ways.  He also participates very effectively in class on a daily basis,” says Brennan.  Hall is described as professional and is a wonderful model to his peers.  “Always even-keeled, patient and approachable, he will serve as an asset to any program or employer.  He works well on his own and is certainly a team player when necessary,” says Brennan.

      Ava Martinez –  Paulding Elementary

      Academic All Star is recognized

      PAULDING -  Ava Martinez, is an Academic All Star for the Ohio Lottery’s Partners in Education program.  She is a fourth- grade student at Paulding Elementary located in Paulding County.

      “Ava is a very wonderful and respectful student.  She participates every day in class.  She works well with all students.  Ava has a bright smile on her face every day,” says teacher Carrie DiVincenzo.

      Academic All Star is recognized

      WEST MILTON -  Addy Stevens, is an Academic All Star for the Ohio Lottery.  She is a student at Milton-Union Middle School located in Miami County.

      Miss Adkins says, “Addy is a wonderful student and a pleasure to have in class.  She always completes daily assignments in a timely manner and uses class time constructively.”  She is known to come to school smiling.  “Addy is an excellent nominee for this award,” says Miss Adkins.

      Kenyona Bell  –  Western Hills High School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      CINCINNATI -  Kenyona Bell, is a student at Western Hills High School located in Hamilton County.  She was named an Academic All Star by the Ohio Lottery and is in the tenth grade.

      Bell is a role model student who is an Ohio State Young Scholar.  She is a member of the National Honor Society. She is helpful in the classroom and comes with a positive attitude every day. Yolanda Lawson, Ohio State University Young Scholars Program Coordinator, describes Bell as “a delight to all of her teachers.”  Bell is also a student ambassador.

      Sonja Teal –  Teays Valley West Middle School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      COMMERCIAL POINT -  Sonja Teal, is a student at Teays Valley West Middle School located in Pickaway County.  She was recently honored by the Ohio Lottery as an Academic All Star.

      Teal was a new student this year who fit right into the school environment.  She is known as a hard worker and a student with a very positive attitude.  She stays on task and comes prepared to class.  She is respected by her teachers and students. Her effort and attitude make her a remarkable student both inside and outside of the classroom.

      Emily Pleva–  AJ Jordak Elementary

      Academic All Star is recognized

      MIDDLEFIELD -  Emily Pleva, was recently named an Academic All Star by the Ohio Lottery.  She is a third- grade student.  She attends AJ Jordak Elementary located in Geauga County. 

      Teacher Melissa Cardinal says, “Emily is a high-achieving 3rd grade student.  This school year she has earned a perfect 4.0 GPA and recently received the Cleveland Cavaliers Straight A All-Star Student Award.  She is the first student in the district’s history to win the school district’s Spelling Bee as a 3rd grader.  Pleva is described by Cardinal as “bright” and an excellent example for other students.  She is dedicated to her studies.  She plays soccer, softball and basketball. She is also a Girl Scout.  Pleva is an all -around great student!

      Hannah Felger –  East Palestine Middle School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      EAST PALESTINE -  Hannah Felger, is a student at East Palestine Middle School.  She is a fifth grader who was recently named an Academic All Star by the Ohio Lottery.  She is on the honor roll at the school and has very good attendance. 

      She works hard in the classroom and enjoys being a member of the Science Club and a part of the Leader of the Pack group.  She served as a “personal assistant” to the 8th grade Leadership Team.  She is always helpful and willing to assist others such as the guidance office with tasks.  The school is appreciative of all that she does and considers her a “very special young lady.”

      Burtch is described as a kind, hard worker.  She gives 100 % to whatever she sets out to do and has a smile on her face.  She is a good friend to her peers and is supportive to everyone.  She is described as a “pleasure to have in class.”

      WEST MILTON -  Lily Brazie, is an Academic All Star for the Ohio Lottery’s Partners in Education program.  She is a sixth -grade student at Milton-Union Middle School located in Miami County.

      Brazie is known to try her best in school and is described as “helpful and attentive.”  She encourages other students around her to try their best and do well in school.

      COMMERCIAL POINT -  Ivan Smith, is an Academic All Star for the Ohio Lottery.  He is a student at Teays Valley West Middle School located in Pickaway County.  He is in the seventh grade.

      “Ivan is a kind, respectful and hardworking young man!  He takes time to help others in both the classroom and hallways.  Ivan is always happy, positive and a joy to be around,” says Allison Swanger, assistant principal Teays Valley West Middle School.

      Academic All Star is recognized

      GARRETTSVILLE -  Isabella Folio, was recently recognized as an Academic All Star by the Ohio Lottery.  She attends James A. Garfield Middle School located in Portage County.  She is in the eighth grade.
        
      Folio is a student who is described as an “extraordinary” student.  Vanessa Shafer, a math teacher in the building, says that “Isabella is an 8th grade advanced student who has proven great qualities in academics, leadership, and attitude.  Academically, she strives for perfection, demonstrates strong analytical skills and challenges herself to learn beyond course content.” She is willing to take on new challenges and is willing to use the resources around her and think critically.  

      Shafer says that “Isabella is a bright future leader with excellent behavior and an overall positive attitude accepting the challenges of her accelerated course work.”  Folio has participated in many community service projects and extracurricular activities.

      Hannah Cunningham –  East Palestine Middle School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      EAST PALESTINE -  Hannah Cunningham, is an Academic All Star who was recently recognized by the Ohio Lottery’s Partners in Education program. She attends East Palestine Middle School located in Columbiana County.

      Cunningham is described as polite and caring.  She is on the honor roll and has good attendance.  “Her work ethic in the classroom is fantastic.  In addition to being an asset in the classroom, Hannah is an amazing athlete,” says Elizabeth Sherry, a guidance counselor at the school.  Cunningham participates in various sports teams such as cross country, basketball and track.  She is a member of the Leader of the Pack group and she is indeed a wonderful leader.

      BROADVIEW HEIGHTS -  Olivia Witt, is an Academic All Star for the Ohio Lottery.  She is a student at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School located in Cuyahoga County.  She is in the 11th grade.

      Witt is described as having many positive qualities.  She is described as having “intellectual promise and professionalism.”  Teacher Sean Brennan says, “Her hard work, especially when it comes to preparing for summative assessments sets her apart from many of her peers.  In my experience, she has demonstrated her ability to digest the material we cover in class and to think about it in critical creative ways. She also participates very effectively in class.” Witt is a role model to her peers and is a wonderful asset to the school. She works well independently but is also a strong team player.

      Academic All Star is recognized

      PAULDING -  Kendra Schroeder, is a student at Paulding Elementary located in Paulding County.  She was recently honored by the Ohio Lottery’s Partners in Education program as an Academic All Star. 
       
      Kendra is described as a hard -working student who is dedicated to her homework and Success Maker.  She excels in reading and math.

      Chase Linnemann – Little Miami High School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      MAINVILLE -  Chase Linnemann, is a student at Little Miami High School located in Warren County. He was recently honored by the Ohio Lottery as an Academic All Star.

      Health teacher Caleb Jones says, “Chase is an excellent student-athlete.  His work ethic is second to none, and is always on top of his grades.  He is a leader in the classroom and on the football field where others look up to him.  He is also a starting offensive lineman on our football team which finished 7-3.”

      “I admire Taufiq because he is truly dedicated to his school work and his sport, soccer.  He already in the sixth grade mastered the art of time management as he works during connect tutoring, then goes each day to a two- hour soccer practice and many times returns home to complete more work.  When I work with him he stays focused, asks significant questions and has a natural curiosity about the world,” says Lynne Gaines, intervention specialist.

      Alaya McMillian –  Our Lady of the Lake School

      Academic All Star is recognized

      EUCLID -  Alaya McMillian is an Academic All Star.  She is a student at Our Lady of the Lake School located in Cuyahoga County.  

      McMillian came to her teacher after Christmas vacation and asked if they could collect toys that the children don’t play with anymore to send them to the less fortunate. The teacher thought this was a great idea so McMillian found a homeless shelter to take the donations and together McMillian and her class made a toy drive called “the Great Toy Drive.”  McMillian was willing to give of herself to help others who were less fortunate.  She took an idea and made it happen.  With the support of the principal, her teacher and classmates she advertised the drive with posters and videos.

      EAST PALESTINE -  Libby Trebus was recently honored by the Ohio Lottery as an Academic All Star.  She is in the sixth grade at East Palestine Middle School located in Columbiana County.

      Trebus is described as a caring young lady with a “very giving heart.”  This past December she made gifts for the teachers; in fact, she made them a gift from all the students so she could include everyone.  She brought in plain white mugs and had students sign each mug and write a message.   The teachers were presented with the mugs the day before Christmas break.  She included others and made gifts that meant so much to the teachers.  She is thought of as having great character, being an outstanding student and is on the merit roll.  Her school attendance is good and she is a great asset to the school and wonderful role model to her peers. She teaches her peers about what it means to give of oneself.

      School Counselor, Elizabeth Sherry, describes Buckius as a “tremendous asset to the school.”  He is actively involved with Red Ribbon Week, Safe and Drug Free Schools Program and a fundraiser for Akron Children’s Hospital.  Buckius volunteers at a local church and Camp Frederick.  He paints ornaments with residents of a local nursing home.  Buckius contributes to his community and the school.       CANTON -  Juan Mendez was recently recognized as an Ohio Lottery Academic All Star. He is an eighth grade student at STEAMM Academy @ Hartford.

      He is described as a hardworking, respectful and humble student. School counselor Michelle Gump-Wilson says that Mendez didn’t use his limited English as a “crutch”.  “He worked extremely hard to increase his ability.  In fact, he works extremely hard at everything he attacks.  While also learning English, he won the top student award in the sixth grade. If you didn’t know him, you would never realize how many accomplishments he has achieved because he is such a humble young man,” says Gump-Wilson.  He volunteers at the YWCA Thanksgiving lunch and he is involved in the community.

      Kazsmer is the National Honor Society co- president along with being a member of several clubs at school such as the Yearbook Club and Student Council.  She is a leader and a good role model to her peers.  She is on the cheerleading team and is a member of the track team and band.

      SOUTH EUCLID-LYNDHURST - Albert Green III is a student at Memorial Jr. High located in Cuyahoga County.  He is in the eighth grade. He was recently honored by the Ohio Lottery as an Academic All Star for the month of March.

      DE GRAFF - Stephanie Newland is a senior at Riverside High School located in Logan County.  She was recently honored as an Academic All Star for the month of March by the Ohio Lottery.

      “Stephanie goes over and above in her daily life,” says Michelle Weadock, a Media Arts instructor.  She is respected by her peers and teachers.  She has been a teacher’s aide for years and has an interest in becoming a teacher.  She recently put forth the time and effort to put together a “Christmas around the World Day” for the children and she created a book for each child that represented the country the kids were learning about.  She works countless hours in the school concession stand.  “From idea inception to funding to implementation, the leadership role that Stephanie takes is worthy of praise and recognition,” says Weadock.

      Academic All-Star is named by the Ohio Lottery

      SPRINGFIELD - Alicia Stewart is an 11th grade student at Greenon High School located in Clark County.  She was recently honored by the Ohio Lottery’s Partners in Education Program as an Academic All Star for the month of January.

      Stewart organized a coat drive for the Rocking Horse Pediatric Clinic by delivering 85 coats to the clinic.  She also organized a “food war” food drive among the various groups at the school.  She simply wanted to give back in some way and took the initiative to do so.  She is an officer of the Varsity “G” Club, an honor bestowed upon those students winning academic varsity letters.

      Cheema is described as an exemplary student who is on the Honor Roll and is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council and a volunteer in the library.  She strives to do her “best” in everything she sets her mind to doing.

      The Ohio Lottery names an Academic All-Star

      REEDSVILLE - Marshall Aanestad is a 12th grade student at Eastern High School located in Meigs County.  He was recently named an Academic All Star by the Ohio Lottery for the month of December.

      “Marshall is the epitome of leadership,” says Sarah Lee, a Gifted Teacher from the school.  Marshall is involved with the Eagle Scouts and he plays football and participates in the Ohio Sr. Model United Nations and the SOAR after school program.  He is always willing to help others and strives to make the school a better place.  He serves as a mentor to his peers both in and out of the classroom.

      Academic All-Star is honored

      MASSILLON - Emma Bachtel is a fourth grade student at L.J. Smith Elementary  located in Stark County.  Bachtel was recently honored by the Ohio Lottery as an Academic All Star for the month of December.

      “Emma is a model student and citizen.  She is in the gifted class and excels in all academic areas.  She is very helpful to the teacher and to her peers,” says Alice Johnston, a teacher at the school. 


      Bachtel is well liked by all that she comes into contact with.  She is described as kind, considerate and responsible.  She is on the Safety Patrol and helps in the cafeteria.  She is well liked by everyone she comes in contact with.

      Marisa Hike – Greenfield McClain High School

      Academic All-Star is honored by the Ohio Lottery

      GREENFIELD - Marisa Hike is an 11th grade student at Greenfield McClain High School. She was recently recognized by the Ohio Lottery as an Academic All Star for the month of November.

      Hike is described as an “outstanding student.”  She is on the honor roll and works hard.  She is always willing to go above and beyond what is expected of her.  She is a member of the National Art Honor Society; she is willing to stay after school to work on various art projects for the school play and homecoming.
       
      Hike took it upon herself to design this year’s backdrop for the opening night of the school’s musical.  “Marisa is an incredibly creative individual, who chooses not only to use her talents for her work in class but also to help others,” says Grace Duncan, an art teacher at the school.   The school feels very lucky to have both her talent and presence.

      The Ohio Lottery names an Academic All Star

      NORTH RIDGEVILLE - David Bacisin is a 12th grade student at North Ridgeville High School located in Lorain County.  He was recently honored by the Ohio Lottery as an Academic All Star for month of November.

      Bacisin is a student who stands out.  He is “one of 34,000 students out of 1.5 million students” who received the Commended National Merit Scholars’ honor.  He was a member of the Academic Challenge Team for the school which had one of the highest scores for the season.  He is the President of the Serenade Group and is a talented artist.

      He is involved in the Olde Town Hall Theatre and has been an active volunteer for Special Olympics, Math Mania and the gifted program.  He is also a member of the Spanish Club.

      Partners in Education Program honors an Academic All-Star

      GREENFIELD - Jimmy Free is a 12th grade student at McClain High School located in Highland County. He was recently named an Academic All Star for the month of October by the Ohio Lottery.

      Free excels academically and is a member of the National Honor Society. He is involved in many clubs. He volunteered at Kamp Dovetail this summer which works with children with special needs. He likes to put others before himself. Currently he is raising funds to pay for camp for children that have financial difficulties. “He will go far academically and professionally, but he will surpass this as a humanitarian because he knows what is important in life,” said Chris Dodds, a teacher at the school.

      Partners in Education Program honors an Academic All-Star

      Columbus - Corey Thanthanavong is a fifth grade student at Hamilton Intermediate School.  He was recently acknowledged by the Ohio Lottery as an Academic All Star for the month of October.

      Thanthanavong was born in Laos.  He shared his background with his class by offering them insight as to why he values and appreciates his education.  He explained the Constitution to his classmates and how lucky they are to live in a country where there is freedom.  He is a role model for the students in his class.  “I wish that all my students had the perspective and gratitude that Corey possesses,” said Brooke Eckenrode, a teacher in the building.
