May Partners in Education Winners

School’s out for summer, and these Ohio students and teachers finished out the year strong. Check out our May Partners in Education Academic All Stars and Teachers of the Month.

Our first Academic All Star is Elaine Bissell. Elaine is a sophomore at Crestwood High School. She is described as hard-working, goal-oriented, and enthusiastic as well as thoughtful, honest, kind, polite, and helpful. Elaine is an Honor Roll student is very involved inside and outside of the classroom. She is in the marching band, the soccer team, Drama Club, Student Council and is an office aide. Outside of the classroom, Elaine volunteers at Hattie Larlham Center for Children with Disabilities and at Tractor Club. Mr. Paul Schmidt says, “Elaine is all in, all the time.”

Zoe Johnson is our next Academic All Star. Zoe is a junior at North Olmsted High School. Mr. Peter DuBois said this about Zoe: “Zoe continues to strive not only to exceed every expectation I have, but she constantly pushes herself to maximize her understanding of every topic we cover. […] Zoe has been a complete pleasure to have in class.”

Our third Academic All Star for May is Loralai Kinzy. Loralai is in the seventh grade at Teays Valley West Middle School. She is described as “a wonderful and hardworking young lady.” Ms. Allison Swanger said, “She is a leader in the classroom and is always willing to assist her peers. Loralai’s smile and positive attitude are contagious and very much appreciated.”

Our first May Teacher of the Month is Nora Feeney. Nora teaches third grade at Hamilton Elementary School. She is described as “a team player and is a pleasure to work with.” Ms. Diane Starkey said, “Nora had a big challenge coming to a new grade level this school year. She has risen to the challenge with a positive mindset. She creates opportunities to bond with her students outside of the academic setting […]. We are lucky to have her!”

Our second Teacher of the Month is Toni Grandini. Toni teaches Kindergarten at Hopkins Elementary School. Toni is described as someone who goes above and beyond as a teacher, and she is known for demonstrating “a level of professionalism, dedication, and love of teaching that is unsurpassed. The parent who nominated Toni said, “A teacher that inspires students to love learning is the greatest asset a community can have.”

Brooke Martin is our third May Teacher of the Month. Brooke teaches Special Education or grades 7-8 at Lee Burneson Middle School. She is described as “a talented educator who is dedicated to her classroom, colleagues, and her school community.” She is known for using compassion, creativity, and humor to help students achieve their goals. Brooke plans activities outside of the classroom such as meal planning, transportation, grocery shopping, and dining out so her students can learn to navigate the world with confidence. Ms. Julie Milkie said this about Brooke: “Ms. Brooke Martin has worked her entire career educating and supporting students with special

needs. She motivates students to believe in themselves and that confidence motivates them to put in the hard work it takes to achieve.”
