Read below to learn more about the Teachers of the Month for January:

Matt Murphy“The students in Mr. Murphy’s class are always engaged in their learning and on task. He has created a great classroom environment for the students both physically with lighting and socially with how the kids interact. He is always looking for ways to turn everything into a lesson whether it is an academic lesson or life skill. Mr. Murphy is constantly exposing our students to the district’s elements of RISE – Resilient, Invested, Safe and Empathy. He has incorporated STEM into his lessons using a Sphero indi to help students with their communication and social skills. Outside of the classroom, Mr. Murphy also works with the high school football program as a coach”- Amy Rutledge, District Communications Director

“Audra is just the kind of teacher you want all your kids to have. She teaches to each individual student.Audra Manriquez The students may all be doing the same project, but Audra listens to each student and adapts the project to the child’s abilities and interests. For these reasons, we have amazing artwork always on display in the school. More importantly, the students are proud of the end products they produce. This gives each student confidence in their ability in art. Audra is also a very good morale booster for the staff. She is always smiling and willing to help anyone in any way possible. Colleagues know they can rely on her to be an inspiration in their own classroom when needed.” – Nancy Miller, Administrator

Sheila Brogan“Mrs. Brogan has an enthusiasm for reading and creative writing that is infectious to her students. She provides a lot of choice in her classroom, so students can read the books they want and then write about them. Learning in Mrs. Brogan’s classroom is at a student’s individual pace so they can progress as slowly or as quickly as they need. Mrs. Brogan is always thinking outside of the box to help students connect to reading and writing. When you walk into her classroom, immediately you are greeted by the warm homey feeling of her classroom. She has created an environment that is conducive to learning and feeling safe. Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Brogan attends all extracurricular activities and helps with supervision or is just there to see her students participating in other activities.” – Kelly Thomas, Administrator

“Stefanie makes learning math and science fun andStefanie Lawson practical. She has the children solve problems like putting Thanksgiving dinner together with $30, determining how many lights it takes to light up a 5ft Christmas tree, and how many boxes of cereal does it take to have a domino challenge on all 3 floors of the school. She has her students designing Christmas ornaments on 3D printers, the kids use drones to video the domino challenge and the kindergarten class makes houses that will hold up to the power of a leaf blower. She is amazing.” – Yvonne Hamilton

Melissa Gaston“Melissa is one of our amazing reading specialists that spends her day providing extra assistance to students falling behind in reading. On top of planning small groups each day, for the past two years, she has put in significant hours in and out of school to become certified in Orton Gillingham, a multi-sensory phonics technique for remedial reading instruction. She builds positive relationships with her students and takes pride in their progress. Every student is greeted by a smile and good morning in the drop-off line, even in the rain and snow. My favorite trait is the level of integrity she has for not only herself but every student and staff member at London Elementary. Melissa is a lifelong learner and educator who I am proud to have on my staff.” – Lou Kramer, Administrator

“Mrs. Mowrer is an outstanding music teacher and hasMegan Mowrer been teaching at Green Elementary for seven years. She is always wearing a smile and her students are too! The music programs at Green Elementary School are truly impressive because of her hard work and dedication to all students. Students have the opportunity to lead and learn new instruments in her classroom. Mrs. Mowrer also organizes school-wide, student-led assemblies that teach kindness and school spirit. We are so lucky to have her on our team!” – Amanda Framstad, Administrator

Chris Lowry“Mr. Lowry is a kind, loving, and caring individual. He not only teaches during the day but also teaches home instruction after school. He coaches football as well. Chris goes above and beyond being a teacher. He is a great mentor and truly cares about individuals. We are extremely fortunate to have him teaching in Warren for the past 28 years! He also taught every subject and is a strong advocate for special education students.” – Sandy Andrews

“This teacher is very kind to every individual in theKellie Palmer school and outside the school. She is so helpful when we need her for something, and she never gets impatient with us or frustrated. She explains everything to make it as simple as possible for everyone. She always knows how to make everyone feel loved and important.” – Gabby Torres, Student

Through our freshman mentoring program, Ian has been instrumental in helping at-risk 9th graders stay on track academically. He is always inclusive when working with students who are less fortunate, and it is greatly appreciated.” – Rob Winton, Administrator

“She is an exceptional student, cheerleader, well-likedValeria Andres by her peers and a hard worker. What separates Valeria from her peers is the fact that this year she challenges herself by taking a college class as an 8th grader: Introduction to Education. She is a good writer and a student who can ask questions and think on a deep level about those questions. She has perfect attendance at school, and I know education is a priority in her home. She comes to school ready to learn every day and always has a smile on her face. There is no question in my mind that as Valeria goes through high school next year, she will be successful, and that success will carry into whatever college and/or career she chooses to peruse as an adult.” – Steve Anway, Administrator

Christian Shoe“Christian strives to do the right thing every day and has shown this at such a young age. I want to be a better person around him. He will always watch for a time he can be kind to someone else and does so. Christian is very smart and is wise past his years. He is someone that once you meet or become friends with you never forget because he makes your world brighter. Christian loves his parents, teachers and anyone that comes into his world. He shows others how to be kind and is always helping to hold doors for students and is eager to always help his school and teachers. Christian is making a difference in this world.” – Rhonda Mazzulla

She has been involved from the beginning, helping with pricing, sales and setup as well as marketing and growing the store inventory. She is always willing to give her time to work the store, which benefits the middle school class trip as well as middle school service projects. Most importantly, Karoline is kind and compassionate and helps younger students as well as her peers and teachers. She often has a smile and never shies away from helping.” – Laura Corcoran, Teacher

Allyson Troyer“Allyson was chosen because she is a dedicated student who is very conscientious about her academics! She is truly dedicated to all her academics. She also shows how important her friends and classmates are every day! Finally, Allyson is a wonderful Duke Pride Ambassador for the young students by modeling our Duke Pride expectations all throughout her school day. She leads by example! Great job, Allyson! Keep working hard!” – Mark Greco, Teacher

“William ‘Kaden’ Dillon is a rockstar student andKaden Dillon leader in the classroom. He is a great role model for his peers and is always willing to help others. He does not hesitate to seek out a student if they look like they need a friend! Having a dedicated, kind, and well-rounded student like Kaden in the classroom is such a pleasure!” – Lauren Miller, Teacher

Nathan Reynolds"Nathan is an exceptional student and excels in academics, culture and extracurriculars. He is a 4.0 student taking high school credit classes and is involved in several activities such as student council, principal advisory council and band.
