December Partners in Education Winners

The holiday season was in full swing in December. A celebration of students and teachers also took place that month. Keep reading for our Partners in Education December Academic All Stars and Teachers of the Month.

Our first December Academic All Star is Aliceya Baker. Aliceya is in the sixth grade at Whittier Elementary School. Aliceya was nominated by her father Andre, who describes her as smart, forgiving, and caring. She is passionate about art and animals. In the future, she wants to be a veterinarian and either have her own practice or work in a zoo.

Carson Basham is another Academic All Star. Carson is an eighth grader at Edison Middle School and is known for being humble, articulate, and kind-hearted. Elizabeth Robinette is a teacher at Edison Middle School and nominated Carson. She said, “Carson is the type of student athlete that continually challenges himself to succeed. [He] is a born leader in and out of the classroom, as well as in the athletic arena.”

Our next Academic All Star is William “Billy” Burgher. Billy is in the eighth grade at Willetts Middle School. His mother Chrystall nominated Billy because of the improvements and growth he’s shown this school year. He has been putting in extra time during the week to complete assignments and improve his grades. He gives back to his school and community by participating in various food drives and tutoring other students. He is very self-motivated and dedicated to getting straight A’s.

Delaney Dunlap is in the fifth grade at Loveland Intermediate School and is a December Partners in Education Academic All Star. Karol Warden coaches Delaney and nominated her. Karol said, “Delaney is a star and yet never lets anything get in her way to excel.” Delaney is an honor roll student, gymnast, soccer player, and softball player. She is known for working hard to perfect her athletic skills and being a role model.

Katelinn Kinsey is another Academic All Star. Katelinn is in the eighth grade at Indian Valley Middle School and was jointly nominated by her school principal, assistant principal, and school counselor. She is described as someone who “is always in a good mood and positive,” and she is very active in the classroom. She is active in student council and volunteers as manager for the girls’ basketball team. All nominators stated, “Katelinn goes out of her way to make those around her happy.”

Our last December Academic All Star is Anna Sturgill. Anna is in the sixth grade at Milton Union Middle School. Austin Mefford is one of Anna’s teachers and said, “Anna is a great leader in the classroom. She goes out of [her] way to help others if they do not understand. She has a positive attitude.”

Our first Teacher of the Month for December is Checole Andrews. Checole teaches eighth grade Social Studies at Heritage Middle School. Checole is described as “an outstanding educator that motivates her students to be successful by being kind and honest with the kids.” Outside of the classroom, Checole is a coach, union vice president, mentor and volunteer. Carol Peterson teaches with Checole and nominated her for Teacher of the Month. Carol said, “Her impact on our students will last a lifetime. She is a wonderful colleague and teacher.”

Demita Baker is our next Teacher of the Month. Demita teaches English II and Diesel Tech at Calvin M. Woodward High School. Outside of regular school hours, Demita also teaches children at her church and at other after school activities. She has been dedicated to teaching for the last 30 years and has taught from pre-school to high school ages.

Leigh Bing teaches English Language Arts for grades 3-4 at Clara E. Westropp Elementary School and is a December Teacher of the Month. Lindsay Hiller works with Leigh and said this: “Leigh is a hard worker. She goes above and beyond always. She will jump into any role she needs to and always makes sure that the kids are taken care of. She is willing to help teachers in any way she can.”

Brandi Henry is our next Teacher of the Month. Brandi teaches seventh grade Language Arts at Miamisburg Middle School. Kelly Thomas nominated Brandi and said, “Brandi Henry has a passion and energy for her students that is infectious and contagious. [She] meets everyday with a smile that greets her students at the door. She is a breath of fresh air and for many of them a bright spot in their day.” She is credited with creating a flexible seating classroom that allows students to sit at a desk, table, bean bag, bungee chair, or other type of seating so each student can do their best learning.

Our next Teacher of the Month is Wendy Hunter. Wendy teaches third grade at CR Towslee Elementary School. Ashley Dey teaches with Wendy and has a son in Wendy’s class. She had this to say: “Mrs. Hunter has done a phenomenal job teaching my son about hard work and dedication. She is teaching the students how to take responsibility for their education [and] how to work hard and persevere with hard tasks. As a colleague, Mrs. Hunter is a staple in our building. She’s always there to lend an ear or give advice.”

Chris Turner is our next Teacher of the Month. Chris teaches Agriculture for grades 9-12 at Liberty Union-Thurston High School. Cortni Brunty has a student in Chris’s class and nominated him for Teacher of the Month. She said, “He just gets the high school students. He goes above and beyond in his daily teacher duty to make sure his students have the best experience they can.”

Jeanelle Thorn teaches fourth and fifth grade Math at BL Miller Elementary School and is a December Teacher of the Month. She is known as a dedicated teacher and problem solver. Keely Kandel teaches with Jeanelle and said, “She goes above and beyond for her students and coworkers. It is a pleasure to work with such a dedicated teacher who cares so much about the kids!”

Our final Teacher of the Month for December is Kelli Wilson. Kelli teaches Science at Jackson High School. Along with teaching, Kelli also advises a Medical Career Club, is on the building’s Leadership Team, and organizes food drives for the community. She has also been instrumental in creating a school food pantry and the Jackson high School Closet which provides students clothing for job and college interviews. Jenny Lang teaches with Kelli and said, “Kelli Wilson is an excellent teacher whose care goes past students in her class. She crafts rigorous lessons for Anatomy and AP Biology, creates a welcoming classroom, [and] takes time to talk to her students about long term goals and worries […]. Mrs. Wilson cares about the entire community. When [she] sees someone in need, she sees an opportunity to help. It is a pleasure to work with someone who makes Jackson High School welcoming for staff and students.”

Winner Wednesday

February is coming to a close, and we’re wrapping up the month with a winner celebration! Keep reading to see who’s winning in Ohio this week.

Douglas Shank of Genoa celebrated a big KENO win this week. He won $11,000 playing the draw game. Douglas purchased his winning ticket at Wyandot Service Plaza on the Ohio Turnpike in Genoa.

Vontilla Rasnick of Huron is basking in the glow of a golden win. She won $20,000 playing Diamonds and Gold.

Wendy Shiets of Port Clinton celebrated a big Pick 4 win this week. She won $5,800 playing the daily draw game. Wendy celebrated her big win at our Lorain Regional Office. When asked how she came up with the numbers, she said she dreamed of them.

Merz Little of Wauseon raced into Winner Wednesday with a double win. He won $10,000 twice playing Fastest Road to $1 Million for a total prize of $20,000. Merz brought his two winning tickets to our Toledo Regional Office. He purchased one of his winning tickets at S&G #60, located at 1200 North Shoop Ave. in Wauseon. The other winning ticket was purchased at Speedway #3642, located at 939 Dixie Highway in Rossford.

Candice Fields of Akron won big on the February 20 Pick 5 drawing. She won $25,000 playing the daily draw game. The winning numbers were 3-0-2-2-8. She purchased her winning ticket at Convenient Food Mart, located at 199 Massillon Rd. in Akron.

Zachary Reynolds of Oregon kicked off the week with a rocking win. He won $17,099 playing EZPLAY® Rock’n 777s. Zachary and his dad were very excited to celebrate the big win at our Toledo Regional Office. Zachary purchased his winning ticket at Ralphie’s #1, located at 3005 Navarre Ave. in Oregon. He said he was shaking with excitement when he won.

Wednesday is here, and we’re celebrating some big wins! Keep reading to see who’s winning in Ohio this week.

Marlene Reino of Tiffin has 10,000 reasons to celebrate this Winner Wednesday. She won $10,000 playing Cash Celebration. Marlene purchased her winning ticket at Butt Hut #3, located at 1972 West Market St. in Tiffin.

Nicholas Vizzone of Chicago, IL is a big Ohio Lottery winner. He won $10,000 playing Cash Celebration. Nicholas celebrated his big win at our Toledo Regional Office. He purchased his winning ticket at Pilot Travel Center, located at 5219 Brecksville Rd. in Richfield.

Vicki Snyder of Toledo has a royal win to celebrate. She won $10,000 playing Royal Gems. Vicki purchased her winning ticket at 7 Eleven Food Store #19775, located at 4505 Lewis Ave. in Toledo.

John Kilmer III of Genoa scratched his way to a top prize win. He won $100,000 playing Bingo Times 10.

Barbara Mertler of Lexington is celebrating a big Pick 4 win. She won $10,400 playing the daily draw game. Barbara won big on the February 6, 2020 midday draw. The winning numbers were 1-1-4-2. She purchased her winning ticket at Lex Beverage Center, located at 27 Plymouth St. in Lexington.

Sally Cooper of North Ridgeville headed into Winner Wednesday with a big win. She won $10,000 playing $500,000 Cashword. Sally purchased her winning ticket at Giant Eagle #199, located at 24325 Center Ridge Rd. in North Ridgeville.

Travis Powell of Ashland is celebrating a dazzling win this week. He won $10,000 playing $300 Million Diamond Dazzler.

Nathan Lones of Junction City is celebrating an extreme win this week. He won $10,000 playing Extreme Millions.

Lisa Collins of Forest scratched her way to a blowout win. She won $10,000 playing Ohio Cash Blowout. Lisa purchased her winning ticket at Martin’s Meat Mart, located at 204 East Lima St. in Forest.

A Lovely Winner Wednesday

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and one thing we love is celebrating winners. Keep reading for this week’s winner stories.

Gary Isom is a big Powerball winner. He won $50,000 playing the draw game. He and his wife Portia celebrated their big win at our Lorain Regional Office. They plan on using the prize to pay off their vehicle and take a family vacation with their two children and two grandchildren. This will be their first family vacation! Gary won big on the January 18, 2020 drawing. The winning numbers were 20-24-38-56-68 and a red ball of 18. He purchased his winning ticket at Village Market, located at 816 North Main St. in Wellington.

Ned Nunnally of Elyria celebrated a quadruple Pick 4 win. He won four times playing the daily game for a total win of $18,100! Ned won big playing his birth year of 1918.

Ann Horn of Avon Lake raced into Winner Wednesday with a big win. She won $10,000 playing Fastest Road to $1 Million.

Marie Perkins of Pemberville scratched her way to a big win. She won $10,000 playing $500,000 Cashword. Marie purchased her winning ticket at Meijer, located at 2111 East Wooster St. in Bowling Green.
