The Ohio Lottery marks Problem Gambling Awareness Month

CLEVELAND, OH – The Ohio Lottery, in collaboration with the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), dedicates March as Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM), marking the 20th year for PGAM.

Problem gambling is defined as all gambling behavior patterns that compromise, disrupt or damage personal, family or vocational pursuits. Approximately 2 million U.S. adults are estimated to meet criteria for severe problem gambling. Another 4-6 million meet the criteria for mild or moderate problem gambling.

The Ohio Lottery is committed to responsible gambling programs throughout the year. Ohioans can visit Keep it Fun, Ohio to learn about gambling myths, how to keep spending in check, and where to find help.

In addition, the Lottery partners with Ohio for Responsible Gambling and the Problem Gambling Network of Ohio to provide training for treatment providers at the annual Responsible Gambling Conference every March.

“The gambling landscape changed this year with the addition of sports gaming making responsible gambling programs more important than ever, and whether it’s lottery play, visiting a racino, or placing sports bets, our goal is to make sure Ohioans are armed with the information they need to keep any gambling in check,” Ohio Lottery Director Pat McDonald said.
