Popsicle Run Produces $100,000 Prize Winner

CLEVELAND –A Brooklyn resident is calling her Lottery win part of her sad story, but a miracle nonetheless.  Elizabeth Stevens won $100,000 on Special Edition Cashword.

After mandatory federal and state taxes totaling 29 percent, she receives $71,000.

Stevens said she has been buying Special Edition Cashword for a year; she did not give up. She was out buying popsicles for husband Tom, who has cancer. While she was at her local grocery store, she decided to stop at the Lottery vending machine. Later, she scratched it with a lucky penny that she found; it was a winner.  Her five daughters were in tears, and now she says everybody in the family is buying this ticket.

“Little did I know that I was riding home with $100,000. There were times when I couldn’t pay for parking at Metro Hospital,” she said. “It’s my sad story and my miracle.”

The Ohio Lottery is actively seeking winners of all prize levels to share their stories. Players with an interest in telling theirs can contact the Ohio Lottery at
