Powerball Jackpot a Record $600 Million
CLEVELAND, OHIO – Powerball’s at $600 million, Mega Millions is at $190 million and Classic Lotto’s at $35.6 million for their next scheduled drawings this week. And, the Powerball jackpot, scheduled for Saturday, May 18, 2013, is in record territory. This afternoon, Lottery officials raised the jackpot to $600 million ($376.9 million cash), making it the highest Powerball jackpot ever and second-highest jackpot prize in U.S history.
The game was changed in January 2012 to offer bigger jackpots, to create more millionaires, and to offer a better chance to win a cash prize. Powerball’s previous highest jackpot was $587 million won on November 28, 2012.
“We’re thrilled to see the Powerball jackpot grow like this,” says Director Dennis Berg. “Our retailers’ businesses are humming, people are talking and we’re looking to bring home a winner.”
Ohio has had two Powerball jackpot winners, the first sold for the June 2, 2010 drawing in Sunbury; the second, drawn June 24, 2010 in Curtice, outside of Toledo.
Since the new Powerball began on January 15, 2012, Ohio has captured seventeen $1-million and $2-million prizes, with players matching all five numbers without the Powerball.
