School Teacher Receives Good Fortune

CLEVELAND – An Ohio Lottery Wheel of Fortune instant ticket brought a school teacher some good fortune. Michael Malec of Newburgh Heights won $100,000, the top prize in the Ohio Lottery’s Top Prize Drawing in the Wheel of Fortune instant game.

Ohio Lottery staff surprised Malec with an oversized check and balloons at a picnic with friends and family. Malec, who asked first if it was a joke, was stunned to discover he had won.

After mandatory federal and state taxes totaling 31 percent, Malec receives a check for $69,000. He has no immediate plans for his winnings.

One of 30 finalists, Malec purchased the TPD entry ticket from Newburgh Marathon in September 2011. That ticket, worth $5,500 was automatically entered into the drawing that took place on August 2, 2012 at Lottery Central. Malec used the $5,500 for home remodeling.

Located at 4723 Harvard Avenue in Newburgh Heights, Newburgh Marathon received a $1,000 selling bonus. Malec said he is looking forward to personally thanking the retailer for selling him a winning ticket.
