More than $462 million in Powerball, Mega Millions and Classic Lotto
Jackpot prizes up for grabs
CLEVELAND -- Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot has been raised to $312 million, and if hit, the jackpot will be the sixth highest in the game’s history.
That’s just the start for Ohio, which has a $125 million Powerball jackpot and $25.8 million Classic Lotto jackpot available, leaving more than $462 million in lotto jackpot prizes up for grabs – the most ever in a given weekend in Ohio Lottery history.
“We’re near record territory with the Mega Millions jackpot and hope to bring that prize here to Ohio,” says Ohio Lottery Interim Director, Dennis Berg.  “For just a dollar, customers can take a chance on winning a wide range of prizes and have some fun.”
Ohio retailers have sold 15 jackpot-winning tickets since the game started in 2002, and more than 290 winning tickets at the second-tier $250,000 prize level since July 2005.  Mega Millions prizes range from $2 to $250,000, in addition to the jackpot prize.  Overall odds of winning are 1 in 40; odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 176 million.
The Mega Millions jackpot has been rolling since Friday, Feb. 4.  If the jackpot is hit, the winner will have a choice of taking the jackpot prize in 26 annual payments, or in a lump sum. Cash option is valued at approximately $198.2 million before tax withholdings.  By current law, the Ohio Lottery will withhold 25 percent federal and 6 percent state tax on prize payments.
Since 1974, the Ohio Lottery has raised more than $17 billion to support K-12 education across Ohio. The Ohio Lottery transferred $728.6 million to the Lottery Profits Education Fund in FY10.
