For the 30th something year, I'll be passing out candy in uniform

by Robert E.
For probably the past 35 plus years, I have been in a police uniform passing out candy and making sure children were safe on Trick or Treat Night in the various communities I've served. I was at Dover, OH police department from 1981 until 2006. I don't believe I missed one Trick or Treat night. In fact, I usually collected $$$ to buy the candy since city funds couldn't be used. I then went to Mesquite, NV, where I participated in Trunk or Treat for the years I was there. Upon returning back home to Dover in 2011, I joined the New Philadelphia Police Auxiliary where I passed out candy in the police cruiser for those years, with the exception of last year. I am a School Resource Officer, K-4 buildings (Deputy Sheriff) in Stark County and last year the Sheriff started a Trunk or Treat in Canton. I was there on Trick or Treat night. Basically, for the past 35 plus years, I've been trying to put a smile on the faces of children by promoting positive police contact and handing out candy.
