TOLEDO – Robert Shore, who lives in Toledo, is just 38 years old. He’s also $100,000 richer than he was back in April, which is his birthday month and also the month in which he bought the Ohio Lottery ticket that changed his world.
His Cleveland Indians/Cincinnati Reds ticket got him an immediate $1,000. More important, though, it got him an entry into a Top Prize Drawing more than a year later that would eventually yield his $100,000 prize.
A note about how TPD works: Ohio Lottery instant tickets of $5 or more have the TPD feature. If the winning combination on an instant ticket lists “TPD” as the prize, the winner receives an instant cash prize and automatic entry into a drawing for the top prize offered in that game. The TPD drawing comes after the close of the game, which sometimes means that the ticket was purchased a year or so before the drawing actually occurs. Shore purchased his $5 Cleveland Indians/Cincinnati Reds ticket in April of 2007 at a Toledo Speedway store. When he made the claim for $1,000, he was entered into the Top Prize Drawing.
Shore was presented with a $100,000 oversized check at the Lottery’s regional office in Toledo.
Since 1974, the Ohio Lottery had raised over $15.8 billion to support K-12 education in Ohio’s schools. The Lottery’s fiscal year 2008 transfer to the Lottery Profits Education Fund was $672.2 million.
