Wednesday, January 02, 2008

First to claim New Year’s Raffle top prize

CANAL FULTONRory Heck, 51, a laborer from Canal Fulton, is the first $1-million winner in the Ohio Lottery’s New Year’s Raffle game to claim his prize.  He and his wife Julie came to the Akron-Canton regional office early this morning to make his claim.

Heck will receive a check for approximately $690,000 in about four weeks, after mandatory federal and state tax withholdings.

He told Lottery officials that he plans to purchase a new house and car with his winnings.

Minit Mart, 2085 Locus Street in Canal Fulton, sold him his winning ticket and will receive a $5,000 bonus.

Other $1-million winning tickets were sold at a Circle K in Akron, Glenn’s Market in Newark and Golden Food Mart in Austintown.

The Ohio Lottery also drew $100,000 and $500 Raffle winners on New Year’s Eve.  Players can find complete drawing results at www.ohiolottery.com and at their local licensed lottery retailer.  New Year’s Raffle offered $5 million in total prizes.
