Physical Education and Health teacher receives an award
AMHERST - Donna Palmer teaches both Health classes and Physical Education to the entire student body at Walter G. Nord Middle School. “Her teaching style promotes a very positive environment that encourages each and every student,” says Barry Kaufman, a Paraprofessional at the school. Palmer was recently named a Teacher of the Month by the Ohio Lottery for the month of October. She represents the Lorain area.
Students who cannot participate in gym due to injuries are utilized as her class helpers. They may keep score, time or perform any task needed to help out. Every student plays a role in the class and is important. She maintains contact with teachers, school specialists and parents in regards to student needs and concerns. “Every child in her classroom is constantly encouraged to do their very best,” says Kaufman.
Palmer demonstrates great planning and organizational skills both in and out of the classroom. She is an integral part of the events and professional development at Nord. She organizes a field day annually. Each year her students also raise money for Hoops for Hearts.
For being recognized as Teacher of the Month, Palmer will receive four tickets to a Cleveland Browns’ game, recognition at the event, merchandise from the team and an assortment of Partners in Education merchandise from the Ohio Lottery.
The Ohio Lottery will continue to recognize Academic All Stars and Teachers of the Month throughout the school year. For more information about the program and for nomination forms, go to the Academic All Star links on this web site's home page.
