4th grade Reading teacher is honored by the Ohio Lottery

JACKSON - Tammy Jones was recently named a Teacher of the Month by the Ohio Lottery. Tammy is a 15th year 4th grade Reading teacher at Westview Elementary School located in the Jackson City School District. Jones was a Teacher of the Month for the month of October; she represents the Athens area.

Jones is described by her principal, Debbie Biggs, as deserving of this award. “During the 2007-2008 school year, her 78 students scored 94.5% passage on the Ohio Achievement test in reading. This compares to the state average of 81.1% passage. Her instruction, lessons and high expectations engage student participation and motivation,” says Biggs. She encourages students to read and investigate subject matter and asks them to orally report on their findings to their peers.

Jones is a lead staff instructor of item analysis of state test data for the district. She is a lead individual in the most successful school recycling program in three county areas: Westview’s recycling program. She has served as PTO treasurer, chaired the Fall Carnival and has been chairman of the booth at the local county Apple festival for the school. The organized the Christmas program as well as staff outings that take place throughout the year. She truly is most deserving of this award; congratulations, Tammy!

For being recognized as Teacher of the Month, Jones will receive four tickets to a Cincinnati Bengals’ game, recognition at the event, merchandise from the team and an assortment of Partners in Education merchandise.
