Math Instructor honored by The Ohio State Lottery
Columbus... Friendliness, sincerity, creativity, and tireless motivation are words used to describe Dr. James Velo. Velo is being honored by the Ohio State Lottery as Teacher of the Month for Central Ohio for the month of October.
Velo has taught in the Columbus City Schools for 21 years. He was awarded the “Central Council Teachers of Math Award for Outstanding Instruction” and is the co-chair of the International Baccalaureate program. Velo teaches AP Calculus and holds a PhD in mathematics as well as a national certification.
Even though Velo’s credentials speak for themselves, he is referred to as “the hallmark of scholarship and proficiency.” His students consistently score well on standardized tests. He is a “cut above most educators”.
Velo is dedicated outside of the classroom as well. He is in charge of the ski club, the senior class, and advises students at every level. Velo is known in his community as a “stellar educator” and recently chaperoned students from the community on a trip to Italy and Greece.
For being recognized as Teacher of the Month, Velo will be honored at an upcoming Blue Jackets game. He will receive four tickets to a game as well as a merchandise prize pack.
The Ohio State Lottery will continue to recognize Academic All Stars and Teachers of the Month throughout the school year. For more information about the program and for nomination forms, go to www.Ohiolottery.com
