Eighth Grade Science Teacher is Honored by The Ohio Lottery
ELYRIA, OHJames Brandenburg received the Ohio Lottery’s Teacher of the Month award recently. Brandenburg has taught for 24 years and the majority of these years have been teaching science to middle school students. He currently is teaching at North Ridgeville Middle School. He represents the Lorain area as a recipient of this award.
Brandenburg is also known for his work with technology. He has gone far above any expectation for a teacher when it comes to technology. He has trained groups of students on the use of distance learning equipment and has led the teachers in extending the use of IVDL equipment to in-house video productions.
He has worked with groups from PTA, the SMART Consortium to Best Buy to find grant monies to support both technology and science. Jim is described by a colleague as “a person of the highest personal and professional standards.”
He was responsible for getting a group of his colleagues involved in Project Montserrat. He dedicated much of his personal time outside of the classroom to this and was a major advocate for the use of Interactive White Boards as an instructional tool. The school now has White Boards in all classrooms due, in large, to the efforts of Brandenburg and his willingness to train and guide others in using them.
For being recognized as Teacher of the Month, Brandenburg will receive four tickets to a Cleveland Cavaliers’ game, a merchandise prize pack from the team, and an assortment of Partners in Education merchandise from the Lottery.
The Ohio Lottery will continue to recognize Academic All Stars and Teachers of the Month throughout the school year. For more information about the program and for nomination forms, go to www.Ohiolottery.com.
