Helpful ninth-grader honored as
Academic All Star by Ohio State Lottery

SOUTHINGTON... For five years now, Linda Davenport, a teacher for Southington Local Schools, has been able to watch Brianna Davis grow up. By all accounts, it’s been a pleasure. Now Davenport has found a way to share that pleasure with others.

Brianna, a ninth-grader at Southington’s Chalker High School, is being honored by the Ohio State Lottery as November’s Academic All Star for the Youngstown area. She was nominated by Davenport, who is delighted that 13-year-old Brianna will be publicly honored for being the person and student she has become.

“With our district being as small as it is, one advantage is always being able to watch former students as they progress through school,” Davenport says. “Two years ago, Brianna came to my classroom and worked as a teacher’s aide. I could always be sure that any tasks given to her would be done to the greatest of my expectation.”

Even privately, Brianna shows kindness and compassion with other students. Davenport recently witnessed Brianna help a younger student who had dropped all of his belongings in the school hallway. “Her friends kept on walking, but Brianna carefully picked up his things for him and handed them back,” Davenport reports. “This is just another example of how Brianna displays wonderful empathy.”

As an Academic All Star, Brianna will receive four tickets to an upcoming Lake Erie Monsters game, where she will be publicly recognized in a pre-game ceremony on the ice. She will receive a prize pack of Monsters’ merchandise and assorted Partners in Education merchandise from the Lottery.
