Ohio for Responsible Gambling (ORG) Receives National Award

(CLEVELAND) – The newly launched Ohio for Responsible Gambling (ORG) initiative has won the 2012 Corporate Social Responsibility Award from the National Council on Problem Gambling.  The award will be presented to representatives of the Ohio Lottery Commission (OLC), the Ohio State Racing Commission (OSRC), the Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC), and the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services (ODADAS) on behalf of ORG this week at the 26th National Conference on Problem Gambling in Milwaukee, WI.  This conference is the largest conference on problem gambling in the world, bringing together leaders in prevention, education, treatment, responsible gaming, research and recovery.

The Corporate Social Responsibility Award is given to an organization that has demonstrated outstanding commitment to social responsibility as it relates to problem gambling in the past year.

ORG was established to promote responsible gambling in Ohio. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the OLC, the OSRC, the OCCC, and the ODADAS. ODADAS serves as the resource partner for the new initiative and the agency responsible for prevention and treatment of problem gambling.

The initiative was launched in May in conjunction with the opening of the Horseshoe Casino in Cleveland, the Hollywood Casino in Toledo, and a video lottery terminal (VLT) facility at Scioto Downs in Columbus. It included a public awareness campaign with radio and television spots entitled “Silence the Addiction.”  The spot featured the ORG website, www.org.ohio.gov, along with information promoting the Ohio Problem Gambling Helpline 1-800-589-9966.
