Hatfield Wins the "Real" McCoy

ATHENS – A resident of Ironton is the latest winner of a top prize. Charles H. “Duke” Hatfield won $1,000,000 after he scratched the Ohio Lottery’s instant game ticket 50X the Money.

The ticket’s top prize, $50,000 for 20 years has a cash option. Hatfield chose the annuity. After mandatory federal and state taxes totaling 31 percent, Hatfield receives a check for $34,500 for the next 20 years.

A direct descendant of the infamous Hatfield family, Duke said he was in shock. He’s been playing the Lottery since it started but never won anything this big. Hatfield says he has been working since age 17, and he will use the windfall toward his retirement and helping his family.

He purchased the ticket from Rich’s Oil, 720 S. 3rd Street in Ironton. Rich’s Oil receives a $10,000 bonus for selling a top prize winning ticket.
