Beating the odds

CLEVELAND - The odds of winning a second-tier prize in the Mega Millions game are 1 in 3.9 million.  Timothy James of Bedford beat those odds on January 18 when he matched the five numbers drawn and no mega ball in that game. He filed a claim at Lottery Central.

After mandatory federal and state tax withholdings totaling 31 percent, James receives a check for $172,500.

He used auto lotto. The winning Mega Millions’ numbers were 4-27-29-38-45. The mega ball number was 5.  James purchased the winning ticket at Cannon Food & Beverage, 25421 Aurora Road in Bedford Heights. Cannon Food & Beverage receives a $1,000 agent bonus for selling a second-tier prizewinning ticket.

The Ohio Lottery is actively seeking winners of all prize levels to share their stories. Players with an interest in telling theirs can contact the Ohio Lottery at www.ohiolottery.com/winners.
