$1 million Raffle winner is one of several to claim

COLUMBUS - Ohio Lottery players start 2010, with a win after having purchased the Ohio Lottery’s New Year’s Raffle game.

Kenneth R.Caution and Catherine L. Novak, both of Columbus and Richard Bernard of Centerburg each won $10,000. The Pollina Business Trust 2010 A of Columbus and the Absolut Trust of Plain City together filed a claim on behalf of the holder a $1 million winning ticket.

After mandatory federal and state taxes totaling 31 percent, Caution, Novak, and Bernard will each receive a check for $6,900. The Pollina Business Trust 2010 A and the Absolut Trust will split $690,000.

Caution purchased the winner from Club Carry Out, 91 N. Stygler Road in Gahanna. Novak purchased the winner from The Kroger Co. #871, 1365 Stoneridge Drive in Gahanna. Bernard purchased the winner from Hub Carry Out, 245 N. Columbus Street in Sunbury. The $1 million winning ticket was purchased at Eldorados Food & Spirits, 4968 North High Street in Columbus. This retailer receives a $5,000 agent sales bonus for selling a $1 million top prize-winning ticket.

Since 1974, the Ohio Lottery has raised more than $16 billion to support K-12 education across Ohio. The Lottery’s fiscal year 2009 transfer to the Lottery Profits for Education Fund was $702.3 million.
